Minecraft Modding Tutorial: Fun Free Adventure

Minecraft mods are a fun way to customize one of your favorite games, and you can even do it for free! Modding in other words is modify or change the game to create new content in the game world. Many games don’t allow modding, but Minecraft lets you do whatever you want to get the best gaming experience. So today I have a fun Minecraft modding tutorial for you to try.

Modding within Minecraft has been going on for a decade now. Back in late 2010 when Minecraft was about to be released, mods started popping up faster than ever. In 2011 Forge was released, allowing players to run multiple mods simultaneously. In 2015, Microsoft released the Mod Developer Pack which allows users to create their mods easier than ever. The modding scene around Minecraft continues to grow day by day and you can finally be a part of it!

Follow the Fun Minecraft Modding Tutorial

Before we get started, we need a way to create our mods and projects. Today we are going to use a really fun and cool app called Minecraft: Education Edition. This is a free tool to help us learn how to modify.

Step 1: Download Minecraft: Education Edition

You can download it by clicking the Download button in the top right corner (red box above).

Step 2: Open the Demo Lesson

After launching Minecraft Education Edition, click try the Demo lesson (circled in red).

Step 3: Click Hour of Code 2019

Select Hour of Code 2019 (AI) to get started. In this lesson users learn about forest fires and how they can use AI to prevent them.

Now Let’s Try the “Research Center” Minecraft Modding Challenge.

1. Approach and Talk to the Guide

Using the W, A, S, and D keys on the keyboard, you can move the dial to Guide. Once he is in front of you, you can now right click on him to talk to him. This will allow you to start the task.

2. Enter the Coding Interface

By pressing “C” on your keyboard, this will allow you to start coding. In the toolbox, there are two coding blocks that you can assemble to solve the puzzle. Try it yourself then press the play button in the bottom right corner.

3. Talk to an Engineer

Just like before, use the W, A, S, and D keys on your keyboard so you can move your player to Engineer. Once he is in front of you, right click on him to talk.

4. Enter the Coding Interface

Press “C” on your keyboard to start coding. He wants you to put coding blocks together to make agents advance by 3! Use what you learned from the last assignment to help you complete this assignment.

Try the free “Science Fiction” Minecraft Modding Challenge

The next challenge is to use Hour of Code 2021: TimeCraft. This tutorial is a choose-your-own-adventure game, exploring various key moments in human achievement as you travel through time. Connect with innovators and discoveries, learn the impact of advances in art, architecture, music, engineering, science, mathematics, and computer science, and practice critical thinking and deductive reasoning. Using their coding superpowers, you will have the opportunity to save the future by solving mysterious discrepancies in the past, gathering clues, and connecting patterns to identify the cause of time gone rogue.

1. Getting Started

Press the button on the screen to start the challenge.

Once the animation is complete, you can now walk to the end of the path. Don’t forget you can use the , A, S, and D buttons to move around your player.

2. Open the Door

Click another button, and follow the sparkles to walk to the next destination. This will lead you to finally get your assignment. The image below shows what you should look for.

3. Talk to TARRA

This will be the start of our first task. Before starting, you should read the instructions and choose your programming language. Today we’ll use Blocks, but if you’re up for the challenge, you can try doing Python yourself.

4. Choose your agent

This area allows you to choose what Agent or Robot you want to use for your task. To choose your agent, click the button according to the one you choose. The image below shows what you are looking for.

5. Code Your Agent

Now you have to open your coding environment using the “C” key on your keyboard. Once you see it, you can try to complete the task of advancing your Agent by 3. This is similar to one of the last challenges we completed!

6. Find the Trumpet

This task involves using your agents to find trumpets. You have to move the agent in different directions to find the trumpet.
