In the beginning, blocks are the basic unit of code that you can use to create a program. For the code at the beginning you drag and drop the block to place it together to create your program. How to use the initial block for code

There are several categories of different scratching coding blocks: movements, appearance, sound, events, controls, sensing, operators, variables, and my blocks (functions). Each block category has a different purpose (each also has a different color so that it is easy to understand that you use).

The following is a brief picture of each category:

  • Block Motion (Blue): These blocks allow you to control the movement of sprite (character) on the stage. For example, you can use a motion block to make a sprite movement in a certain direction, rotate on the screen, or go to a certain position.
  • Visible block (purple): These blocks allow you to change the appearance of the sprite, such as by changing the costume, color, or size.
  • Sound block (pink): This block allows you to play sound or add music in your program.
  • Block (yellow) event: These blocks allow you to arrange events that trigger your script (coding sequence) to run, such as when the green flag is clicked or when a certain button is pressed.
  • Control block (tangerine): These blocks allow you to control the flow of your program, such as by repeating the code section, having a waiting code before running, or stopping the program.
  • Sensing Blocks (Teal): This block allows you to create a program that responds to input from the user or environment. For example, you can use sensing blocks to check whether the mouse is clicked, ask questions to the player, or check whether the sprite touches another sprite.
  • Operator Block (Green): This block allows you to perform mathematical operations or compare values ​​in your program. This is very useful and allows our program to do complex things.
  • Variable block (orange): These blocks allow you to create variables (names that can change) in your program and use them to store and manipulate data. Examples will include the score variable or health variable in the game.
  • My block (red): This category starts to empty without blocks. This allows you to create your own coding block, also known as a function. This is used for more advanced coding applications to your program.

The following are the basic steps for the code method at the beginning

  1. Go to the beginning website And Create an account.
  2. After you enter, click the “Create” button to start a new project. You can create a project without logging in, but you will not be able to save the project for later.
  3. You will see the stage on the right side of the screen and the device bar on the left. You will have a large empty coding workspace in the middle. The stage is a place where you can see your animated preview and game.
  4. To start coding, drag the block from the toolbar and install together to create a program. Always start with the event block from the event category. There are different blocks for different functions, such as controlling character movements or playing sound.
  5. To test your code, click the Green Flag button in the top right corner of the stage. This will run your program and show you how it looks and behaves. Remember the various events that were carried out at a different time, so if you choose “when the sprite is clicked” then your code will not run until you click on the sprite, even if you click on the green flag!

Scratch the term vocabulary for beginners

Because you may be new in programming, here are some important terms that you will find when you learn to program with the beginning:

  • Sprite – The name of the character in the initial program. Sprite can have many different costumes and each sprite has its own code.
  • Costume – Different pictures or clothes that can be worn by sprite. This costume can be activated throughout the program to create animation.
  • Block – Different code pieces that can be inserted into coding sequences. This is your program building block. Each code block does something specific.
  • Stage – The stage is an area where the program will be played on the screen. This is where the characters (sprite) do their actions.
  • Program – The event tells the program when to run every code sequence. Each coding sequence requires an event or the code will not run.
  • Manuscript – A series of instructions (blocks) that control what happens in your coding project.
  • Background – Stage background. You can have a different background to change project settings. For example, to represent different levels in the game.
